BETHANY W.Va. During Communications week I had the privilege to attend a speech on strategies on how to better your job search. The speaker, Danny Rubin gave me and the rest in attendance, very good advice on how to get employers to notice you. What really stood out to me was that he said we all have things that we love to do. If we love what we do we should continue to work hard at it no matter how many obstacles we come across.
A good example is that you have to do what you love every day, even if it just for fifteen minutes. This can help you get better at what you love to do as long as you’re always doing it. For me, I love video editing and I have made multiple videos for myself over a period of time and it’s one thing in my life that I love to do. Another piece of advice he gave is when you contact an employer. He said to be interested in what they do which is looking up their current or past accomplishments as a company and send that to them in an email. This shows that you are not just focused on yourself and that you care what their company can do.
Rubin believes that being different and not just sending your resume in will help you land a job. You measure your success from results from your effort. He mentioned that after a few times that he would email a company to sell his book in their store that he would get rejected. But that didn’t stop him, he continued to write to them until he got what he wanted, which is success for all his hard work. His book is about how to write emails, resumes, and how to talk and contact potential employers for your field of work.
Danny Rubin is a motivational speaker who has influenced me to be different in my job search and to keep on pushing through with hard work.
