Bethany, W.Va.- Homecoming for Bethany College kicked off on Monday night with their annual pep rally, set up by the Student Activities Council. They hosted games, performances by the Bethany College Dance Team, introduced fall sports, and introduced the 2017 Bethany College homecoming court.
On Saturday, September 30, Bethany College had their annual homecoming football game. Saturday was packed with tailgating, football, and of course Bethany College Alum. New students and the opportunity to meet and interact with people who have graduated.
Tailgating started around 11 am. Alumni from all over enjoyed catching up with their college friends while meeting current students. They socialized at multiple different tents, visited their sororities/fraternities, and reminisced about their college years. Alpha Xi Delta, Zeta Tau Alpha, Phi Mu, of the Greek life at Bethany hosted a tent with food and drinks for their current members and alum. There were tacos, hot dogs, and much more.
The football team played against Carnegie Mellon University. Sadly, Carnegie Mellon won 45-14. Both men and women’s soccer had games on Saturday. Men’s soccer played against Penn State and won 6-0. Unfortunately, women’s soccer was not so lucky and lost against their opponent.
If you were at the game, you had the opportunity to sign the pledge for It’s On Us. It’s On Us is a campaign that Bethany College students started to speak up against sexual assault and rape on college campuses. Its purpose is to spread awareness and promote a safe place. They ended up getting 90 signatures and 90 people to sign the pledge.
Sarah Sebetich was one of those people. We asked her why she supported the It’s On Us campaign, and why she wanted to sign the pledge. When we interviewed her she said, “ I support this campaign because our school should be a safe place. I want to go to school in which we protect our students and peers from sexual assault. Change starts with us, and that is why I am pledging to help atop campus sexual assault”.
Overall, no matter where come from or where you go after Bethany it will always be home. From the most recent graduates to the most successful alum, Bethany will always hold a special place in their hearts. Watching all of the alumni reminisce and relive their glory days, no matter how their lives are, they know they are always welcome back.
