Coach Moore is a taking over for Jan Forsty who had previously been the coach for Bethany College’s softball team for 30 years..
BCTV member Jake Gerber recently interviewed the Bethany College softball coach, Cassandra Moore. Gerber interviewed Moore about how she was introduced to coaching, what the team’s core values are, and about their upcoming trip to Florida which is where the team plays a number of games.
Moore came to Bethany from a collage in South Carolina where she had her first experience with coaching. She says that she was a volunteer coach and then became a pitching coach while in South Carolina. She has also done a lot of service work that has helped her get to the position she is in today.
Bethany College’s softball team has many core values that coach Moore tries to instill in her players. A couple of these values are learning from their mistakes and trusting the process. She says that even though throughout the process of the season there are some failures, the team always tries to stay positive, and positivity is one of the biggest things they value. Coach Moore also likes to push her players out of their comfort zones to help them better themselves.
Every year, the softball team goes down to the sunshine state of Florida where they participate in multiple softball games and take the opportunity to bond with each other. This year, the team will play a total of eight games. Coach Moore says that it is a nice opportunity to get away from Bethany. Even though there is obviously a big emphasis on softball because that is the main reason they’re down there, it is an opportunity for the team to be in their own bubble and have bonding opportunities that might not necessarily happen when they are at Bethany.
